St Joseph’s as a voluntary aided school – ‘faith school’ in current parlance – has a Board of Governors with a majority of Foundation Governors – those appointed by the Bishop of Clifton to maintain the Catholic ethos of the school; these are complemented by elected parent governors, representatives of the staff and the head-teacher who also promote the school’s Christian ethos.

The governors’ remit is to appoint the head-teacher and assist her (him) in the management of the school; governors are not managers in their own right, but are there to advise and help the head-teacher with decisions which affect the school’s direction. To do this governors meet at least three times a year as a full governing body, but most of the tasks are delegated to committees as follows; Finance and Premises, Learning and Standards, Staffing and Admissions, and Communication.

Following careers in banking and the TA, I spent some years working in my local parish and as a Registrar.  I now manage two business centres accommodating 110 small businesses.  As a parent, I have been involved in Catholic Education for 22 years.  My two eldest children attended St Joseph’s from 2000-2004 and my youngest boys, James and Leo, currently attend the school.  As a family, we enjoy visiting the Channel Islands, have an allotment and we have recently discovered Geocaching, a novel way of exploring the locality!

Katrina Douglas-Phillips – Foundation Governor

I live in Nympsfield and have worked in the fields of Medical Physics and Research then more recently in Accountancy.  My two children both attended St Joseph’s between 1998-2007, continuing their education at St Peter’s.

Wendy D’Arcy – Head Teacher

I am an ex officio member of the governing body, as headteacher at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.  I qualified as a teacher in 1998 and during my teaching profession, I have taught in several inner city schools in Gloucester and have been a co-head in another Catholic Primary school in Cheltenham.  I have two children, Dylan and Isabelle who also both attend St Joseph’s. As a family, we enjoy taking part in sport as well as cheering on Wales in the rugby!
