St. Joseph’s Pre-School

St Joseph’s Pre-school has recently been rated as ‘Good’ in a Ofsted inspection which took place in May 2015. We have a strong history of offering ‘good’ provision and are pleased to be continuing to build on this.

The inspector’s report stated that ‘staff provide a safe and secure environment for children’ and that ‘good induction procedures help children settle-in well’ and that ‘staff provide enjoyable and imaginative activities for play’. It also praised the good progress the children make ‘because the staff have good teaching skills and successfully engage them in purposeful activities.’ This was achieved by the staff providing ‘a well-resourced and equipped learning environment … to encourage children’s engagement in activities, both indoors and outdoors.’

St Joseph’s Pre-school Mission Statement:
• For children to feel safe and happy.
• To learn and develop through play in a rich and welcoming environment.
• To be kind, caring and form secure friendships.

The Pre-school is situated in the Leigh building within the grounds of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.

Each and every day is different! We ensure children are provided with opportunities to grow, develop and achieve in a friendly and welcoming environment.

We welcome children from two years to school age and are now able to accept the two year old funding. We are open Monday to Friday, 8.50am-3.00pm daily (term time only).

We have a good team of highly qualified practitioners. Our lead practitioner has a PGCE with a specialism in the Early Years and our two deputy practitioners have a wealth of experience and knowledge of the early years, having worked with this age group for countless years.

We have a warm, bright room with a large range of floor toys, role play corner, creative station as well as focused fun and creative activities, story area, music and computer sessions. There is also a large secure free-flow outside play area where the children can also enjoy themed activities alongside ride-on toys, sandpit and water play. The children enjoy a wide variety of healthy snacks provided by the parents.

Pre-school is also able to use the school hall for inside activities. The children attend school assemblies and have the opportunity to visit reception class, and take part in joint activities from time to time.

During the summer term, children visit the reception class and meet their new teacher. With Pre-school being based in the school and the children being able to use school facilities the whole experience promotes a smooth transition into school enabling the children to settle quickly.
