St. Peter’s Class
Welcome to Saint Peter’s Class Page!
Teacher – Mrs Mann and Mrs Howells
Here in Saint Peter’s class we start every day with Guided Reading. Thank you so much to the parents who come into hear us read. It make such a difference to how well we do. We could always do with some more help – so please don’t hesitate to let us know if you are able to help for 20 – 30 minutes any morning.
Our Topic this term – Up, Up and Away!
This term we are becoming scientists and explorers using various natural and other resources to learn about our planet, living things and habitats. In Science we will be learning about living things and their habitats; focusing on whether things are alive, dead or never been alive and the habitats that living things live in. Through our Geography lessons we will learning about continents and oceans using the globe and atlas to help us. We had a class visit from Bristol Zoo, where we met some of the animals that live in the habitats we’ve been studying.
The children thoroughly enjoyed making the Advent Wreaths before Christmas. In groups the children made one for each class across the school and the staff were so impressed that many of them to them home. This term we have been looking at the Parable of the Sower learning from Jesus. We are looking forward the Lent Retreat on Friday 9th February.
- Saint Peter’s homework will be set on a Friday, Homework that is set is literacy based one week then maths the next. The Literacy re-enforces work that the chidren have been doing in class. The maths tends to be mental maths, with a writen activity, followed by a test the following week. Spellings are also set weekly – to be learnt at home and tested in school on Thursday afternoon.
- All homework needs to be completed and handed back in on the following Wednesday.
- PE day will change after the February half term to a Thursday afternoon, the children will be doing dance with Sarah from Dazzle. Please ensure school kit is in school. This includes suitable footwear (plimsoles/trainers – laces only if the children can tie them themselves). This will take place outside most of the time so please ensure that your child has kit suitable for the weather (tracksuit bottoms and hooded top). School PE kit is a house colour top and navy/black shorts (not a skort).
- Reading at home is so important. We would love all of the children within Saint Peter’s class to read 5 times per week to an adult outside of school. When the children have read at home please make a note in the children’s diary and number them, 5 reads equals a reading point!
