St. Peter’s Class

Welcome to Saint Peter’s Class Page!

Teacher – Mrs Mann and Mrs Howells

Here in Saint Peter’s class we start every day with Guided Reading. Thank you so much to the parents who come into hear us read. It make such a difference to how well we do. We could always do with some more help – so please don’t hesitate to let us know if you are able to help for 20 – 30 minutes any morning.

Our Topic this term – The Minpins

This term we are becoming scientists and researchers using various resources to learn about animals and using software to research and produce presentations.  In Science we will be learning about animals, including humans; focusing on animals and their off spring and investigating animals’, including human’s, basic needs.  Through our Computing lessons we will be designing and producing our own presentations using the internet and databases to help us.  Later on in the term will plan to have a local class visit to further develop our understanding of animals and humans.

The children are thoroughly enjoying our class book, The Minpins by Roald Dahl especially Dahl’s creative use of language.  We will soon be story writing in Literacy and have been focusing on our punctuation and use of vocabulary in our writing too.

During this season of Lent we have been reflecting on the way we behave and learning about Penance.  Later on in the term will be going over to the convent to learn all about the Stations of the Cross with Sister Marie and we are very much looking forward to our St Joseph’s Day mass.

Key Reminders:

  • Saint Peter’s homework will be set on a Friday, Homework that is set is literacy based one week then maths the next. The Literacy re-enforces work that the chidren have been doing in class. The maths tends to be mental maths, with a writen activity, followed by a test the following week.  Spellings are also set weekly – to be learnt at home and tested in school on Thursday afternoon.
  • All homework needs to be completed and handed back in on the following Wednesday.
  • PE is now on a Thursday afternoon, the children are doing dance with Sarah from Dazzle. Please ensure school kit is in school. This includes suitable footwear (plimsoles/trainers  – laces only if the children can tie them themselves). This will take place outside most of the time so please ensure that your child has kit suitable for the weather (tracksuit bottoms and hooded top). School PE kit is a house colour top and navy/black shorts (not a skort).  Your children will come of school on a Thursday in their PE kits.
  • Reading at home is so important. We would love all of the children within Saint Peter’s class to read 5 times per week to an adult outside of school. When the children have read at home please make a note in the children’s diary and number them, 5 reads equals a reading point!
